Chimney Fire: Eakin Road

10:32: Stations 32, 31, 37, and 55 (FD & EMS) dispatched to 193 Eakin Road in Cherry Valley Borough; the resident is reporting the chimney and side of the house are on fire. Everyone has evacuated.

10:34: Station 31 acknowledges the call.

10:35: Engine and Snorkel 55 are responding.

10:38: Engine 32 is en route.

10:39: EN-32 is reporting heavy smoke showing coming from Cherry Valley. Chief 32 is requesting Station 30 for a Tanker and they’re being alerted.

10:40: C-32 is advising 55 units that this will be a 200′ lay off the main road; this is right on a sharp turn. They’ll try to get the Snorkel in, but it’s not a very big driveway.

10:41: 55-3 is asking C-32 where they should park, and if they should contact Control to get some kind of heating capabilities for firefighters when they begin rotating out for rehab.

10:42: EN-32 is arriving reporting the upstairs is completely on fire. C-32 is requesting Control strike the 2nd alarm; Stations 34 and 25 added to the call.

10:43: Control advises that Engine-37 is on the road, and Tanker-31 is reporting en route.

10:44: C-32 is instructing 55 units to put their manpower on the hand line as soon as they arrive; he only has 2 people on it at this time. Chief-34 acknowledges for his Station; Command is requesting his Tanker first.

10:45: Command states he’ll need another line off EN-55 when they arrive and he needs them inside. The exterior is knocked; additional manpower is needed to the interior. 55-3 is on location, beginning to set up rehab.

10:46: Command is instructing a 55 unit to put 2 firefighters on the hand line and 2 in the house. Crews are also needed to the attic.

10:49: Station 34 has been requested by Venango for a 2nd call, covering a CO alarm activation for Station 37’s first-due area, but C-34 is advising that they will be unable to cover that one. The medic from 55 is asking Control to check if Butler County has a heating tent available.

10:50: Command is asking what units are currently responding from his 2nd alarm. So far, Control states they only have acknowledgment from Stations 25 and 34. Tanker-25 is now reporting en route. Command requests the 3rd alarm be activated. Tanker-34 is also now responding.

10:52: Stations 39, 650 (out of Clarion), and 28 (for a Tanker) are being activated for the 3rd alarm.

10:59: Negative on warming tent capabilities from Butler County; Bruin requested for additional rehab. Control had also placed a call to Superior EMS to check on their availability.

11:08: Station 29 also has no rehab capabilities at this time, but will be sending manpower to assist. Control is going to try contacting ABC Transit to try to get a bus for warming.

11:11: At 40 minute benchmark, Command reports fire is still not knocked.

11:15: ABC Transit is sending a bus immediately. Fill site has 4 tankers sitting full at this time.

11:22: Fill site traffic is moving to a separate Ops channel. They’re reporting they have a 4″ line laid to the hard road for the tankers.

11:24: Fire is under control per command.


12:39: All Station 55 units are back in service.

12:44: Eakin Road incident terminated by Chief 32.
