MVA, Vehicle Vs Structure: N Main St Ext

20:48: Stations 14 and 99 dispatched to 1615 N Main St Ext, Center Twp, for an MVA with entrapment.

20:49: 99-5 is responding and requesting a helicopter on standby. Control is alerting all units that an additional call reports the vehicle is “through a business” — the jewelry store — the vehicle is reported to be “through the roof” and there is a possible gas leak.

20:50: Station 14 acknowledges the call.

20:52: C-14-3 states he went through the area with nothing located and is asking for a better location. Control is stating it is the jewelry store next to the Window World, and multiple calls are advising there is a strong odor of gas in the area. He’s stating it did reportedly go through the roof, so it may have come off of Sunset.

20:53: C-14-3 and C-14 are arriving on location. C-14-3 is stating (they’ll need People’s Gas?); the vehicle is off the road, into the back of the building off of Sunset. Rescue 14 is to come down Sunset and if they have someone to bring an Engine, to bring one. RQ-14 is now en route.

20:53: People’s Gas needed. Vehicle is off Sunset into the back of the building. 99-5 is instructed to come in off of Rt 8 and into the parking lot of Golden Dreams Jewelry for now.

20:54: 99-5 is to come into the parking lot of the jewelry store. Control is advising that the gas company has been notified, and LifeFlight is on standby with a 10 minute ETA.

20:55: RQ-14 is advising C-14 that he may want to start an Engine from another company.

20:56: Command is asking if RQ-14 is on Sunset Dr or Rt 8; they state they just turned onto Sunset. They’re to stop at the top of the hill just behind Window World to drop off (poles?). After evaluation of the patient, they’ll then need to go back around to Rt 8 and come in between the two businesses.

20:57: 99-5 is on scene. They’re to go in between Window World and the jewelry store by the Trooper vehicle. The occupant is alert and is advising he is OK. EN-14 is now en route. RQ-14 is on location.

20:58: Command is asking Control to notify the gas company that the gas line has been shut off.

21:00: EN-14 is instructed to pull in beside RQ-14 and pull a 1¾” hand line upon arrival for (suppression?). Command is now requesting RQ-3 for heavy rescue assistance.

21:01: Station 3 is being alerted. Station 3 acknowledges with 2 firefighters on station. C-3-3 is responding.

21:02: Control states that they have LifeFlight on the phone asking to know if they will be needed. Command is stating, “That’s affirmative; go ahead and send West Penn, they’re probably going to need the power shut off to the building. See if they can do a remote shut off also.” Control is clarifying it is LifeFlight asking if they’re needed. There is no immediate response from Command.

21:03: Command is asking Control if Station 3 has an Engine to setup an LZ, and is asking Control to put the helicopter in the air. C-3-3 copied directly and states he’ll have an Engine to the mall and the Rescue to the scene. RQ-3-2 is responding.

21:04: C-3-3 is suggesting brining in Station 35 and is asking Command if he’ll need struts for shoring; Command states he is pretty good with vehicle stabilization at this time — if they have enough manpower for the Engine to establish the LZ, that’s good, otherwise, he’ll add 35. C-3-3 states both Rescues are coming, but an Engine might be able to come up. Command states he wasn’t sure of manpower; he is asking Control to add Station 35 for the LZ.

21:05: Station 35 is being alerted. RQ-3 is en route.

21:06: LifeFlight 4 is airborne from their base at the Butler Airport (KBTP).

21:07: C-35-2 is responding to his station. Control is advising Command, he’s not sure if Command can get an Engine there any faster, but that LifeFlight called back 4 minutes out from the mall. Command states they’ll have to wait for Station 35. Control is asking C-35 if he copied that.

21:08: (C-35?) is advising Command he’s in his POV and can head to the mall. Control is asking C-3-3 if he was starting up to the mall; he states he is passing the scene now and will switch to the Air Ops channel. TN-3 is responding to the mall, as well.

21:10: SQ-3-2 is responding. Station 35 acknowledges with 2 firefighters on station. LF-4 is calling for a ground unit; C-3-3 states he’s just pulling into the mall, and he’ll be putting them on the north end of the lot toward Giant Eagle. The pilot can see him on the ground and will be orbiting. C-3-3 has visual contact on the aircraft and is giving the pilot his LZ briefing.

21:11: LF-4 is asking if there is an ETA on the patient; C-3-3 states he’ll get that by the time he’s on the ground. The pilot is advising C-3-3 to advise when they’re cleared to land.

21:12: C-3-3 is giving the pilot additional details and clarification. RQ-3 is approaching near the mall and is asking which way they’re to come in. Control is instructing them to come off Rt 8 into the parking lot of Window World and send their crew to the back of the building to assist with extrication. Control is asking Command for a patient update for the aircrew.

21:13: RQ-3 and RQ-3-2 are both reporting on scene. EN-35 is responding.

21:14: Command is advising the aircrew that the patient is conscious and alert, bleeding from an unknown area, and is still entrapped at this time.

21:16: SQ-3-2 is on scene. C-3-3 is reporting LF-4 on the ground at the LZ.

21:17: TN-3 is to come in non-emergency per C-3-3; he’s also asking Command if the ambulance is on the way. Command advises they are bringing the patient out of the vehicle into the stokes basket and will be on the road in about 10 minutes. EN-35 is approaching, requesting orders. There’s no direct response.

21:18: RQ-35 is responding; Command is advising them to stand by. EN-35 is to proceed to the LZ, and they’re now reporting on scene there.

21:20: 99-5 is transporting to the LZ.

21:21: TN-3 and RQ-35 are on scene at the mall.

21:23: 99-5 is out at the LZ.

21:33: 99-5 reports that patient care has been transferred to LifeFlight and they will be en route to Allegheny General Hospital momentarily.

21:39: LF-4 is airborne toward Pittsburgh.

21:40: 99-5 is clearing the landing zone. C-3-3 reports the LZ is broken down and all fire units are clear of the mall.

21:42: C-3-2 reports all Station 3 units are clear from the incident.

21:56: LF-4 is on the helipad at AGH.

22:04: Control is advising Command that the power company reports the power is off, but they’re still sending someone out.

22:09: Control is advising that the power company has provided an ETA of 20-30 minutes.

23:57: Command terminated. Station 14 is back in service.
