Tractor-Trailer Fire: I-79SB, Worth Twp

23:35: Stations 33, 24, and 52 dispatched for a tractor-trailer hauling paper products on fire near the 101.6 mile marker of I-79 southbound in Worth Township.

23:36: 52-2 is responding.

23:37: Chief 33 acknowledges the call.

23:38: Station 24 acknowledges.

23:39: Engine 33-2 is en route.

23:40: Rescue 24 is responding.

23:41: RQ-24 is asking Control to confirm if this will be northbound or southbound and is advised they believe it to be southbound; the caller did not speak English.

23:42: C-24-3 is in the area with heavy smoke.

23:43: C-24-3 is confirming it is southbound and fully involved.

23:44: C-24-3 is asking RQ-24 if the Tanker is en route; C-33 is requesting a tanker out of Station 13 and they are being alerted.

23:45: Command reports a truck fully involved and a hillside with fire going up over. I-79 needs shut down ASAP.

23:46: C-33 is also requesting PennDOT for traffic control. C-33 states they are approaching; they are first due and are to make attack. The tractor is detached from the trailer; it is just the trailer on fire.

23:47: C-24 is on scene.

23:48: TN-33 is passing the 103(?) MM right now, requesting orders; they are to pull up behind EN-33-2.

23:49: RQ-24 has made the flip at the turnaround and is to hook into EN-33-2 on arrival. EN-33 is responding. Tanker 13 is en route.

23:50: RQ-24 and TN-33 are on scene.

23:53: TN-24-2 is approaching.

23:54: TN-24-2 is on scene.

23:58: EN-33 is to stage out of the way and leave room for the tankers. C-33 is being advised this is a trailer full of paper.

23:59: C-33 is requesting Control notify Errera’s Towing; they will have extensive cleanup.

23:59: C-24 is asking Control to add Station 22 to any other calls for his station while this incident is active.

00:01: TN-13 is approaching; they are to hook into (TN?)-24-2.

00:02: TN-13 is on scene.

00:06: Control is advising that Errera’s is en route and PennDOT has just responding saying they’ll get someone out.

00:30: Control states PennDOT is requesting orders; Command wants them to close the interstate at the Slippery Rock exit. TN-13 is coming northbound in the southbound lane; they are to stage in front of 52-2 for now.

01:05: Command is asking Control to confirm if PennDOT has the interstate closed.

01:06: Control states it was their understanding PennDOT had the road closed; they will double check. Command states they are going to try to clear out the backlog of traffic.

01:11: Command is advising TN-24-2 they are letting the backlog out; TN-24-2 is to standby at the turnaround until advised it is clear.

01:23: Command states they “really need to see if PennDOT can get out here.”

01:25: Control is now advising PennDOT just got back to them with a 15 minute ETA to the Slippery Rock exit.

01:27: 52-2 is clear of the scene and back in service.

01:33: 52-2 is advising there’s still no sign of PennDOT at the exit; Command states he’s trying to get PSP up there.

01:34: Command is asking 52-2 to close the interstate; PSP reportedly has to leave.

01:35: TN-24-2 just got on I-79 NB.

01:36: TN-24-2 is to proceed to the exit and assist 52-2 with the closure until PennDOT shows up.

01:37: 52-2 is advising Control they are handling the road closure. Command is requesting they notify Control when PennDOT shows up so it can be annotated. 52-2 states the road is closed at this time.

01:38: Someone is advising Command that the PennDOT truck appears to be heading north on I-79 now.

01:40: 52-2 is marking PennDOT on scene, taking over the closure.

01:43: 52-2 is clear and in service.

04:35: All Station 24 units are clear of the scene.

05:32: Command is terminated; Station 33 is back in service. The interstate remains shut down at this time.
