Water Rescue: Moraine State Park

09:45: Stations 14 and 64, with Team 300, dispatched to Moraine SP Porter Cove. Caller at the boat ramp can hear a male screaming for help, out near a boat; they can’t see him but state he is in distress.

09:50: Station 13 is being added to the call following a 2nd alert for Station 24. Station 24 acknowledges the call.

09:51: 64-2 is on scene, investigating.

09:53: 64-2 is confirming 1 person in the water opposite from their location at Porter’s Cove.

09:47: The victim is closer to the Rt 422 overpass, a few hundred yards out.

09:58: C-13 is asking if the Park Rangers have a boat in the water yet. That’s unknown.

09:59: C-14 reports an overturned kayak ~200 yards off; they’re trying to locate the victim.

10:00: At least some rescue boats will be launched from Bear Run.

10:01: Still no contact with the victim; the caller reports they heard him but never saw him.

10:02: Control advises that the Rangers were en route to get their boat.

10:03: Boat-14 is out at the Bear Run boat launch. Contact has been made with the individual; he’s still attached to the kayak.

10:07: RQ-24 is on scene.

10:08: C-13 reports the Rangers are with the individual now.

10:11: Boat-14 has 1 victim; they’ll be en route to EMS at Porter’s Cove. Dive gear is not needed.

10:16: Any Team 300 units not on scene are cancelled per Command.

10:34: Boat-14 is clear of the water and in service.

10:41: 64-2 is transporting the patient to UPMC Cranberry.
