Motorcycle Crash: I-79 SB, Cranberry Twp

05:42: Stations 21 and 51 dispatched with SQ-98 for a motorcycle crash on I-79 SB between Rt 228 and the turnpike. Caller reported a bike laying on the road with no driver seen at the time of dispatch.

05:45: Rescue 21 is responding.

05:46: RQ-21 is asking for details on the location; Control states it is between Rt 228 and the turnpike southbound. There have been multiple 911 calls on this.

05:47: An additional caller reports the male rider is laying on the roadway and may have been hit by another vehicle.

05:49: RQ-21 is out in the area, investigating.

05:50: 51-4 is on scene.

05:52: 51-4 is reporting they checked southbound; they’re going to exit and head north to see if they can find it.

05:53: Control states an additional caller gave the 77.4 MM, and there have been at least 5 calls on it. Captain 21 is asking if PSP is en route; the bike is in the middle of the road and traffic is swerving to miss it. FD is unable to get to it from where they are now on the ramp; Control states PSP is en route.

05:54: 51-4 states they’ve found the vehicle that struck the motorcycle and the driver is injured. They are going to begin treatment and are requesting another EMS unit to handle the rider, who is still somewhere on I-79. Station 51 is being re-alerted; 51-1 is now en route.

06:02: Fire Police units are going to be blocking 1 lane of traffic.

06:04: 51-4 is transporting the patient from the vehicle that struck the motorcycle to AHN Wexford.

06:06: A firefighter is advising Command that PSP is requesting the Interstate be shut down.

06:12: 51-1 is on scene.

06:14: RQ-21 is advising Cap-21 that PSP is requesting FP to the ramp at the SB exit to divert traffic to come back on at (the other entrance?). Cap-21 states they are already working on that.

06:16: A FP unit states he has I-79 shut down, but the ramp is so long that vehicles are going around the flairs and getting back on. He is placing as many flairs as possible but is requesting a PSP unit. One other FP unit states he’s en route to that position now.

06:23: I-79SB is now reportedly shut down and diverted onto Rt 228.

06:40: SQ-98 is clear from the scene.

06:41: 51-4 is back in service.

06:59: 51-1 is clear from the scene.

07:16: FP units are advising Command they have a tow truck inbound on the Interstate.

07:47: Command states PSP is going to be releasing them, but FP will need to remain on scene.

07:49: RQ-21 is clearing now; Command is terminated. FP remain on scene to handle the road closure during the investigation.

08:30: Per PSP, Fire Police are clear to reopen I-79 SB.
