20:31: Stations 14 and 99 dispatched to North Main Street Extension near Pine Drive in Center Township for a head-on collision; it is reported no one is getting out of the vehicles. Station 14 acknowledges the call with 3 firefighters on station. Post dispatch, units are advised there are multiple calls. At least 1 serious injury is reported. 99-5 is assigned.
20:32: Chief 14-2 is en route and is instructing Station 14 not to wait for him if they have a crew available. Rescue 14 is now en route.
20:33: 99-5 is requesting an aircraft on standby to the Crossfire Church parking lot.
20:35: Control is now advising all units there is reportedly a male trapped in a Toyota Corolla, and LifeFlight 4 is on standby with an 11 minute ETA. RQ-14 on scene reporting 2 vehicles in the middle of the roadway. Captain 14 has Command; they are out investigating. Control states they got a report of 3 vehicles involved.
20:36: Engine 14-2 is responding. Command has confirmed entrapment; EN-38 is requested, possibly to establish the LZ or to provide extrication assistance. Station 38 is alerted.
20:37: Control is asking if 1 helicopter will suffice. Command is still checking for injuries but states only 1 at this time. Utility 14 is responding. EN-38 is responding.
20:38: EN-14-2 is to pull behind RQ-14 and assist with extrication. 99-5 is being asked how many units are en route. 99-5 is on scene. Command states he needs 2 more ambulances to the scene. 99-4 is now assigned. Chief 14-2 is now assuming Command.
20:39: 99-4 is responding. Station 52 is toned out.
20:40: UT-14 is being advised they may need to go setup the LZ.
20:41: 52-1 states they do not have another unit and will be responding from Grove City Hospital unless a 44 unit is closer. 52-1 is now reporting en route. Command is now requesting the aircraft in the air. EN-38 is diverting to setup the LZ.
20:43: Control is advising EN-38 that Stat MedEvac 16 will now be the responding aircraft.
20:44: Command is marking extrication complete. Control is asking if LF-4 should be kept on standby; they’re available but Stat 16 was a little closer. Command advises the 2nd helicopter can stand down.
20:45: EN-38 is out to establish the landing zone. 99-4 is arriving and is to pull in front of the other ambulance on scene in the southbound lane.
20:49: Command is now requesting a unit from Station 35 for traffic control at the intersection of N. Main Street and Mercer Road. He states Route 8 is fully closed between Pine Drive and Mercer Road.
20:50: Station 35 is alerted for the call. Lieutenant 35 is responding to his station.
20:51: The helicopter is now airborne from ACMH Kittanning.
20:57: The pilot is requesting their LZ briefing. After the brief, they are reporting 3 minutes out.
20:58: Stat 16 is passing over East Butler into Oakland Township.
20:59: EN-38 has visual on the aircraft.
21:00: Station 99 is being asked if they have a unit available for a Delta response and is stating they do not at this time. That call, in Butler Township, is being turned over to Station 45.
21:02: Command is directing 35 units to Rt 8 @ Mercer Rd. Route 8 is to be closed and traffic redirected either way. Engine 35 is en route. 52-1 is approaching Benbrook, requesting orders; Command is requesting they standby at this time.
21:03: Stat is now reported on the ground. Command is asking if 52-1 is responding to this MVA and is now stating that must have been an error; 52-1 is back in service.
21:08: EN-35 is on location, blocking Route 8 at Mercer Road. Command is stating big trucks are to stack until the scene is cleared and are not to be sent down Mercer Road.
21:09: Command is reporting to Control they have expanded the closure and have the roadway shut down between Mercer and Benbrook Road.
21:11: 99-4 is transporting 2 patients, ALS, to BMH.
21:20: Stat 16 is airborne to Presby; Command is advised a tow truck is arriving. EN-38 is released by Command and is back in service.
21:21: 99-4 is out at BMH.
21:30: There have been no further updates from the scene to this time.
21:37: Stat 16 is arriving on the helipad at UPMC Presbyterian in Pittsburgh.
21:48: Command is instructing traffic control units on both ends to reopen the roadway. The incident is terminated; Stations 14 and 35 are back in service.
