Working Fire: South Rock Apartments

14:39: Stations 33, 13, 14, 34, 1, and 52 dispatched along with Mercer Stations 85 and 95 to 347 Kiester Rd, the South Rock Apartments* for a fire in an apartment. Evacuation in progress.

14:40: Chief 33 is responding.

14:41: Station 14 acknowledges. Engine 33-2 is en route. Chief 13 acknowledges; Chief 34 is en route to his station.

14:42: Tower 1 is responding. Control is advising the caller was instructed to activate to local alarm on their way out and close the door. C-33 is arriving on scene.

14:43: C-33 is stating there is nothing evident from the exterior but is asking which building the specified apartment is in. Control states it appears to be A and also states this is the second call for Station 52 and they haven’t acknowledged. C-33 states Control can hold off on going to backup. EN-33-2 is reporting on location.

14:44: Engine 13 is en route. C-33 is asking Control to call the caller back and have them meet FD outside. Control states it will be a couple minutes.

14:46: Engine 14 and Tower 33 are responding. Control states the caller is responding.

14:47: C-33 is now stating he’s located the apartment and he has a working fire. He is instructing TR-33 to come in the first entrance and park behind EN-33-2 and deploy the tower to the 3rd Division. TR-1 is instructed to use the first entrance as well but is not being given other orders.

14:48: Engine 34 is responding short-staffed.

14:49: Station 52 is being re-alerted and Station 99 is being alerted to cover the call. Rescue 14 is en route. EN-34 is instructed to hit the hydrant and lay into EN-33-2.

14:51: Tanker 13 is responding. Command reports the fire is knocked but there will be extensive overhaul. No units are downgraded or canceled. 52-1 has reportedly cleared from their previous call and is now responding here.

14:56: EN-14 is instructed to stage behind TR-33. EN-34 is reporting on scene and is instructed to standby at the hydrant.

14:57: No extension shown, the fire is reported extinguished.

14:58: Command is holding the incident to Station 33 and units on scene.

14:59: Another fan is needed on the 3rd Division. TR-1 is returning in service.

15:00: TR-33 is asking if they are to go in and Command is instructing them to proceed to check for extension.

15:02: TR-33(?) is now reporting negative extension.

15:14: 52-1 is requesting orders and is canceled by Command.

15:20: Kiester Road Command is terminated; all units are back in service.

*This was originally reported as the Slippery Rock Apartments. The dispatch gave 347 Kiester but the name of the complex wasn’t clear, and a marker for South Rock appears on Harmony Road. This is however a separate block of the South Rock Apartments on Kiester Road.
