06:43: Stations 27 and 36 alerted with Freeport EMS for an MVA with injury; there is a vehicle into a tree at the exit and the caller is reporting the operator is unresponsive.
06:45: Lieutenant 27-2 is en route to his station.
06:46: Second alerts for Stations 27 and 36. Chief 27 is responding to the scene.
06:47: Freeport 70-3 is en route. Lieutenant 36 is en route; Station 36 acknowledges the call.
06:48: Station 27 acknowledges the call.
06:50: 70-3 is asking for a better location; Control states this will be on Route 28 between the northbound exit and the entrance ramp to Route 28 northbound. Rescue 36 and Engine 27 are responding.
06:51: C-27 is on scene reporting a single male patient unconscious but breathing, still in the vehicle. He is advising units they are on the right side of the road, down in the trees, and is asking Control to place the nearest available helicopter on standby.
06:52: 70-3 is on location.
06:54: Brush 27 is en route. C-27 is now instructing Control to put the helicopter in the air.
06:55: R-36 is approaching; they’re instructed to come in the northbound off ramp and pull off on the side.
06:56: R-36 is on location. Command is advising them he needs them in the northbound lane to put lights on the truck. They are asking if they are to go and turn around but are advised to just pull on to Rt 28 and backup. E-27 is approaching; they are to come in the northbound exit. Control is advising that Stat 16 gave an ETA of 10 minutes. Command states they will land the helicopter on the highway.
06:57: E-27 is to come to the end of the exit and backup by R-36.
06:59: Brush 36 is responding.
07:00: B-27 is approaching and is instructed to come in the northbound exit; Route 28 is to be closed.
07:01: B-27 is on location.
07:02: B-36 is to get on Exit 16 and await Command’s instruction to close northbound traffic.
07:05: B-36 is on location.
07:07: B-36 is asking if they are to close the road yet; Command states to hold up for a minute or two as there is no sign of the helicopter yet.
07:08: Control is advising that due to Stat MedEvac checking weather, their ETA is still going to be about 7 minutes.
07:11: Stat MedEvac is airborne from their base at ACMH Kittanning.
07:13: Stat 16 is reporting 3 minutes out from the landing zone, requesting their briefing. They will be landing ~150 yards north of the overpass with traffic shutdown now.
07:15: Command is instructing L-27-2 to clear traffic off Route 28 for the helicopter. Now advised to hold traffic; the helicopter is in sight.
07:16: The pilot states he is going to make an orbit and then will be on final approach.
07:17: Command is reporting Stat 16 on the ground.
07:18: Someone, possibly EMS, is telling Command they are stating “here” if he wants to send “them” (probably the flight medical crew) up to the ambulance.
07:22: Traffic controllers are advising Command that PD are on their way up now.
07:41: Captain 27 is asking Command if they roadway will be closed for investigation; he is going to check.
07:42: Command is now advising Cap-27 that once the helicopter lifts off, they are going to open one-land traffic.
07:43: E-27 is reporting the helicopter is airborne.
07:44: Command is advising Control that Stat is airborne to UPMC Presbyterian and instructing traffic controllers to open the left lane only.
07:46: Traffic is reportedly moving in the single lane now.
07:56: The helicopter is on the helipad at Presby now.
08:05: B-36 is advising Command that Route 28 is reopened.
08:29: Command terminated; Stations 27 and 36 are back in service.
