Multiple Wrecks, Interstate 79

20:48: Stations 22 and 21 dispatched for an MVA reported with no injuries at the 82.8 mile marker of I-79 southbound in Jackson Township. State Police are reportedly responding with an extended ETA. There are 3 vehicles with 1 being a tractor trailer.

20:49: Chiefs 21-2 and 21, and Rescue 21, are en route.

20:50: Chief 21 is advising R-21 the roads are getting pretty ugly and they should consider using their chains if needed. Rescue 22 is responding.

20:53: C-21 is telling R-21 to put their chains down; there are multiple crashes at 528 and 19 and he is now out of service himself, out with PD, and everything is complete ice.

20:54: Control is advising responding units they are receiving multiple calls from additional vehicles involved; all parties still reporting no injuries. R-22 is asking Control to notify PennDOT if they are available.

20:56: R-21 is advising R-22 they are going to hold position on Route 19 near the auto auction due to very bad conditions and they believe they had an accident occur in front of them.

20:57: Chief 21 is advising they will not be able to respond to the interstate due to multiple incidents on Route 19 now. Jackson PD is at Route 528 and 19 strongly advising nobody to use 528, it is solid ice. Station 21 units are returning in service at this time. C-21 states he will be pulling up to some of the MVAs to investigate further.

20:58: Station 22 states they have 4 personnel on station if needed; R-22 is advising them to standby at this time.

21:00: R-22 is in the area stating they do have gridlock on the interstate and they are requesting Zone 6 Fire Police, they’re going to close the interstate southbound and divert traffic to 19 at the Evans City Exit.

21:01: Control states Chief 21 has advised they have 528 and 19 closed. R-22 is advising personnel on station to roll the Ladder due to chains not working on the Tanker. They are to proceed to the Evans City Exit, southbound, and begin setting up to close the roadway.

21:03: C-22-2 has command on the interstate.

21:04: Zone 6 fire police are now alerted.

21:05: Ladder 22 is responding. Chief 21 is stating they are stopping traffic on Route 19 northbound at the auto auction and sending them back south.

21:06: Control states Cranberry PD have been notified as well.

21:07: C-21 is requesting an officer to the hill by the auto auction.

21:09: I-79 Command is asking if Zelie PD has an officer that can assist with closing the interstate southbound at the Evans City exit onto Route 19.

21:11: FP-12-3 is responding with an extended ETA.

21:12: Control is advising C-21 the township has a road crew unit responding.

21:15: C-21 is advised the road truck is trying to get through traffic control now.

21:16: Control is advising I-79 Command that Zelie PD are responding to the 85 MM with Ladder 22 to assist with the interstate closure.

21:21: L-22 is advising I-79 Command they just witnessed a tractor-trailer jackknife just north of their location on the hillside and is it is blocking the entire roadway now. No one can pass.

21:22: Control is asking if the tractor-trailer is just north of the 85 mile marker.

21:23: The unit that reported the jackknife is now stating it looks like the driver is attempting to get turned around.

21:24: Chief 21 is now stating Station 21 units are returning in service. L-22 states the tractor-trailer did get freed and is continuing.

21:25: Zelie PD are asking what their orders are; L-22 states they are to come to the 85 MM to assist with the backlog from the tractor-trailer.

21:27: Control is asking units what will be Zelie PD’s best approach; they are stating all traffic is getting off the ramp to Route 19 and unless the Rescue needs PD further south, PD can disregard for the time being.

21:31: FP-12-3 is instructed to relieve L-22 so they can get the apparatus off the interstate. FP-12-3 is asking if there will be a need for other FP units and the reply is negative but traffic is at a crawl. He is advised to use extreme caution on his approach, the roadway is very icy.

21:35: Stations 33, 24, and 52 dispatched for an MVA with unknown injuries at the 100 mile marker of I-79 southbound. This is in Worth Township near the old Boy Scout Jamboree exits.

21:36: Station 52 acknowledges the call at the 100 MM.

21:37: Chief 24-3 is responding to the 100.

21:38: 52-2 is en route to the 100; Station 24 acknowledges the call. Second alert for Station 33.

21:45: R-24 is staging at the Route 488 junction.

21:49: Units are reporting that another tractor-trailer has jackknifed on the off-ramp to 19.

21:55: FP are to move to the off-ramp at the 85 MM; the interstate will be reopening but there is still a tractor-trailer jackknifed on the off-ramp.

21:56: Ladder 22 is advising the 85 southbound ramp is closed at 19 due to the jackknife.

21:57: Control is asking if it will require a tow and the answer is that the driver is requesting one.

22:02: R-24 states they are responding out to the interstate now.

22:09: R-24 is on scene.

22:12: Control is asking Chief 24-3 if he has a unit to investigate near the 95.2 MM SB for a vehicle into a ditch; C-24-3 is asking for Station 13 to do that. Station 13 is activated for the call.

22:13: Station 13 acknowledges the call for the 95.2.

22:16: Chief 13 is requested to advise PSP if they are needed due to multiple ongoing crashes.

22:20: Engine 13 is responding to the 95.2 call.

22:21: Station 13 units are now canceled by 64-2 reporting no patient and no need for FD at this scene.

22:25: FP-12-3 are advising Command that the jackknifed tractor-trailer has cleared itself but the ramp remains closed at this time.

22:28: Stations 21 and 51 dispatched to the 78 MM for 2 vehicles into the barrier.

22:45: C-24-3 is reporting all Station 24 units are now clear of the 100 MM.

23:07: Stations 24, 22, 13, and 64 dispatched to the 94.8 MM in Muddy Creek Twp for 1 vehicle into the center median.

23:10: FP-12-3 is requesting Control activate all County Fire Police units for I-79.

23:12: Engine 13 en route to the 94.8.

23:13: Units are now advised the vehicle at the 94.8 is the same vehicle for which they were previously dispatched; she is still awaiting a tow.

23:20: Countywide Fire Police toned out to provide pre-warning at the 87 MM.

00:00: Units are clear of the southbound off-ramp at the 85 MM and it is reopened. FP-12-3 and FP-21-2 are clear.

00:12: FP-12-3 is now stating all Fire Police units are clear of the interstate.

01:03: Chief 22-2 is asking Control if they can see if PSP has an ETA for the wrecker for a remaining truck and is advised a trooper will be contacting him directly.
