MVA, I-79 Northbound, Little Creek Off Ramp

23:37: Stations 22 and 62 alerted; car struck a tractor trailer and a guard rail. Reported with serious injury. Station 62 acknowledging.

Stations 22 and 62 alerted for an MVA on I-79 Northbound reportedly with serious injury.

23:38: 62-4 en route. Control states this is the beginning of the off ramp to Little Creek Road, going Northbound on 79. Chief 22 en route.

23:39: Rescue 22 en route.

23:40: All units advised there is a paramedic on scene reporting one male unconscious, he is breathing, he is entrapped. Chief 22 requesting additional units. 62-4 requesting Control check for nearest air medical.

23:41: Chief 22 on scene with Command.

23:42: Station 21 reporting a unit en route. Rescue 22 and 62-4 on scene. Chief 22 requesting his station re-tripped due to entrapment.

23:43: Station 22 re-tripped for MVA now with confirmed entrapment.

23:44: Station 24 acknowledging with 1 man on station. Stat MedEvac 3 is at their home base at UPMC Cranberry, 9 minutes on standby.

23:46: I-79 Command states the 62 unit will rendezvous with Stat at UPMC Cranberry directly. Chief 22 reporting Stations 24 and 21 can cancel, patient is extricated.

23:51: 22-3 on scene, instructed to stop short of the overpass for early warning.

23:52: 62-4 en route to UPMC Cranberry to rendezvous with Stat MedEvac.

00:02: 62-4 is out at UPMC Cranberry.

00:08: Fire Police from Station 21 are requested to shut down the Interstate.

00:09: Fire Police toned out to shut it down at the Little Creek Road exit.

00:15: There has been no response from Fire Police; Control re-tripping them as one unit reported en route.

00:16: Fire Police instructed by Command to shut it down at Route 68 instead of Little Creek Road now.

00:18: Rescue 22 reporting to Command 1 vehicle ignored the shutdown and got through.

00:19: A second vehicle has passed the roadblock now. Command states PSP is on scene and will handle them.

00:20: Stat MedEvac has not departed UPMC Cranberry yet.

00:21: Traffic Control reporting possibly 3 more vehicles have now passed the roadblock.

00:35: Still no sign of Stat 3 in the air as of this time.

00:36: Stat 3 is airborne from Cranberry headed toward Pittsburgh.

00:44: Stat is arriving on the helipad at UPMC Presbyterian, Pittsburgh.

00:50: Some type of small bus or “omnibus” got past the roadblock and is apparently now trying to turn around.

00:57: Fire Police reporting the tow truck is passing their roadblock now.

01:20: No other updates from this incident to this time.

01:37: Fire Police were instructed by I-79 Command to reopen the interstate.

01:40: I-79 Command terminated, all units except Fire Police back in service; FP will be finishing cleanup at the roadblock. 62-4 reports they’re back on station, out of service until further notice.

01:50: Fire Police units are now clear of the scene also.
